The world’s first public film show took place on December 28, 1895. The brothers Auguste and Louis Lumiere demonstrated to the assembled public the film “Arrival of a Train at the La Ciotat Station”. There was no plot as such in this film – the film showed a train braking at the platform. The film made a huge impression on the public of that time – the picture was so realistic that some viewers, at the sight of an approaching train, jumped up from their seats and ran away from the hall. Since then, cinema has reached unprecedented heights, the possibilities of modern cinema would seem to the audience of the era of the Lumiere brothers a real fantasy. But, no matter how grandiose modern technologies are, sometimes it is no less effective to turn to the cinematic traditions of the past. For example, in 2013, the film “The Artist” was released, shot in the style of silent films.
