TESTIMONY. Robbery in a bakery near Rouen: “We are all very shocked”

“We are all very shocked and since this morning we have all been not well. We try to work but we keep thinking about it, “says Sylvie Plessis, the co-manager of the Aux Blés d’Or bakery of Darnetal, near Rouen (Seine-Maritime).

Around four in the morning, Friday February 21, 2020, while a bakery worker was at work, three hooded men struck at the back of the establishment, located rue Louis Pasteur. “Our employee thought he was a delivery man, so he opened the door,” says Sylvie Plessis.

A young baker held in cheek

It was then that three criminals, with one handgun, held on to the baker and stole the cash, before stealing the keys to his car and his cell phone. The three men left with their booty, only 70 euros, behind the wheel of the young baker’s Peugeot 207. The cash register, worth 3,000 euros, was also completely ransacked.

The 22-year-old employee filed a complaint with the police. “He has only been there for three months, he is shocked,” points out Sylvie Plessis. It’s the first time this has happened to us, we’ve been here for 11 and a half years. Maybe it’s because with the holidays, a lot of bakeries are closed around us. They may have said that we had to make a figure. But frankly, it’s serious. If we work to be robbed, we stop everything! “

The perpetrators still on the run

Sylvie Plessis also says that recently : “An alcoholic man had knocked on the window for something to eat but since my husband had nothing, he was insulted. We will think about it but we will certainly have to put curtains on our bay windows so as not to attract attention. It’s really shocking what happened. “

For the moment, the three criminals are still at large. Police opened an investigation. Police remind traders that “never keep too much money in their cash.”
