Tested: seat heating for your office chair

From Big Hug is a cloth with a kind of membrane inside, such as with electric underfloor heating. But you don’t have to brick it. It only needs to be connected to the thick supplied power bank. It’s all of a simplicity that makes you wonder why this hasn’t been around much longer. Maker Stoov has been selling the Ploov: same idea, but with a pillow instead of a blanket.

With today’s gas prices, hopefully you’ll think twice before cranking up the heating. But if you want the comfort, the Big Hug could be a solution.

Warm, but not hot

Installing is quite easy. You just have to open a zipper and plug in a plug and then you can go. A label in the side offers a button with which you can adjust the Big Hug in three positions. From the position ‘Is it on?’, via ‘I think it works’, to the position ‘Nice and warm’. Those are not official names, but part of my review.

There are cars where in position three you really get the feeling that you are getting dark burn marks on your jeans. That won’t happen to you with the Big Hug. It certainly feels warm, but it doesn’t get hot.

Big enough

The thick battery at the top has the advantage that you can easily hang it over a chair and the blanket does not slide down. The size of the Big Hug is also large enough with 40 by 110 cm. There is also a somewhat larger XL version (45 x 135 cm) for sale.

Recharge after a few hours

Officially, the blanket should be warm between 4 and 1.5 hours depending on the setting used. On the hottest setting, I didn’t make it to 1.5 hours. And even on the lowest setting, you can’t use the Big Hug all day. Unless you manage to pull a wire to a USB charger instead of the battery.

Runtime is the only downside to the Big Hug. It is also a nice upgrade for your sofa or chair.
