Since I founded cnewyork.net in 1999, I have never seen anyone be disappointed by New York. This is the magical and universal side of New York! But there can be a beginning to everything… So, if you are planning to go to New York soon or if you are still hesitating to take the plunge, take the test below: if you answer “yes” to only one of the following questions , or several, New York will necessarily please you and you can go headlong!
1/ Are you a fan of architecture?
- New York is obviously THE city of skyscrapers! If the first high-rise buildings emerged in Chicago at the end of the 19th century, they gained new momentum in New York. Get ready for torticollis! In New York, you can climb to the top of the One World Trade Center tower, the tallest building in the United States with 541 meters at the top of the antenna. Stunning view from the One World Observatory!
- You won’t miss a short tour of the Empire State Building observatory as well as a one-on-one with the Chrysler Building, a superb Art Deco building.
- Another curiosity to see absolutely: the elegant Flatiron Building, a building inaugurated in 1902 and which sports a curious shape of an iron. Also plan to survey the TriBeCa district for its Cast-Iron Buildings, imposing buildings with cast iron frames.
- In Greenwich Village and Brooklyn, you can then admire the old-fashioned charm of the brownstones, these beautiful houses in the style straight out of an American series.
- Discover the main buildings to see in our section on Places and monuments of New York.
2/ Are you passionate about history?
- Whether you like little historical anecdotes or History with a capital “h”, New York has what it takes for you! You can start your historical journey at the southern tip of Manhattan, on Wall Street, where New Amsterdam was founded in 1625.
- Then you will go back in time on Broadway following these commemorative plaques which recount the great historical parades, in particular those organized in honor of General de Gaulle or the astronauts returning from the Moon.
- The French will also discover a whole section of Franco-American relations on the island of the Statue of Liberty. A nice gift offered by the French people! Within reach by boat, you must also visit Ellis Island, which saw so many European immigrants pass from 1892 to 1954.
- Contemporary history awaits you on the former site of Ground Zero, with the moving national museum of September 11, 2001. This huge museum tells you about the attacks that left America in mourning and changed the world.

- If you liked the Louvre in Paris and the British Museum in London, then you are in for New York! The Big Apple is home to several world-renowned museums, starting with the huge Metropolitan Museum of Art, which can be considered the New York Louvre. A word of advice: don’t try to visit everything because it would take you several years…
- New York is also home to the prestigious Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA, which has some of Andy Warhol’s most famous paintings. If you like pop-art, complete your visit to MoMA with the Whitney Museum, also featuring major American works.
- Then allow me a few lines on my darling, the Guggenheim Museum. This museum is worth a visit as much for its incredible spiral architecture as for its fascinating private collection.
- If you like science, then go to the American Museum of Natural History, the prodigious museum of natural history. In particular, you will be able to touch real pieces of meteorites and contemplate stuffed animals more real than life.
- Even more fun, board the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, the New York air and space museum. The museum is simply housed in an old aircraft carrier docked on a Midtown wharf. What immerse you in the atmosphere!
