Portugal National Team won a positive result in the test match against Qatar. Without Cristiano Ronaldo, Selection of Quinas menang 3-1.
In the match which was held at the Nagyerdei Stadium, Saturday (4/9/2021) night WIB, Portugal did not field Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned first to Manchester.
Coach Fernando Santos made 11 substitutions for the team that beat the Republic of Ireland 2-1. Andre Silva, Otavio, and Goncalo Guedes are the mainstays on the front lines.
Qatar surprised when they created a chance in the fourth minute through Karim Boudiaf but his shot went wide on the side of the net.
In the ninth minute it was Almoez Ali’s turn to waste a chance when he headed the ball across Boudiaf, but the ball hit the post.
Qatar continued to press Portugal’s defense and made it difficult for goalkeeper Anthony Lopes. However, Portugal finally took the lead in the 23rd minute.
Joao Mario sent a pass to the penalty box and Andre Silva was out of control at the far post to head the ball into the net. The 1-0 score for Portugal quickly changed to 2-0 two minutes later.
Now it was Otavio’s turn to score. Goncalo Guedes stabbed from the left to send a cross headed by Otavio between the controls of the two players.
At the end of the first half, Qatar lost its main goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham who was sent off for violating Guedes in an on goal position. The referee looked at the VAR before sending Barsham off and being replaced by Yousef Hassan.
In the second half, Qatar, who played with 10 men, could still provide resistance to Portugal. Portugal still controlled the game and had a chance to release a chance in the 58th minute through Joao Mario, but went wide.
In the 61st minute, Afif’s corner was successfully headed in by Abdelkarim Hassan to break into Anthony Lopes’s net and make Qatar cut the score to 1-2.
Qatar increasingly eager to equalize the score but their efforts in vain. Portugal then included Diogo Jota and Bruno Fernandes in search of additional goals.
The goal was obtained in the 88th minute following a foul on Diogo Jota in the penalty box. Qatar again lost its players due to a red card, this time it was Boualem Khoukhi’s turn to strongly protest the referee’s decision.
Fernandes accurately placed the ball in the right corner that Yousef Hassan could not reach. Portugal also closed the Copba test match with a 3-1 victory and will return to the 2022 World Cup Qualifying match against Azerbaijan on September 7th.
