Before the second game of their trip to the United States, it’s a restless night for the German footballers. Shortly before the end, the national team coach also expressed his unease about the away match.

The German soccer players experienced an unintentionally short night on their trip to the United States.

There were two false alarms on Saturday morning (local time), national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and national player Laura Freigang reported before the second test match against the Americans. “The evening was not what we had imagined, but the players handled it exceptionally,” said Voss-Tecklenburg.

The European runners-up won their first match against world champions USA 2-1 on Thursday (local time) and the second test is scheduled for Sunday (23:05 CET, ARD live stream) in Harrison near New York. On Monday, in addition to regenerating before the flight home, players are allotted about two hours for a possible “little glimpse” of the East Coast metropolis, Voss-Tecklenburg reported.

In advance, the national coach had also expressed disappointment with the international match due to the date and referred to a contractual obligation. “If you win next, maybe one or the other will be put into perspective,” Voss-Tecklenburg said. “However – and the players know it too – it’s not the best moment of a long journey, and since the days we would have liked it to be a little different”. Sporting challenge and joy are out of the question, he stressed. “This is a huge added value for us in sport.”

The two meetings serve as preparation for the World Cup from 20 July to 20 August 2023 in Australia and New Zealand. There, Germany meet Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round.
