Specialized sellers will advise you to moderate your enthusiasm by reminding you that any framerate above 144 Hz is excessive, given the few observable differences between a 144 Hz screen and a 240 Hz screen. However, with the latest graphics cards from Nvidia and d ‘AMD that powers the best gaming PCs today, you can expect many games – even the most common ones – to easily go above 144 fps. Whether you’ll notice the difference then remains open, but you’ll have the peace of mind of owning a monitor that will easily track 240 frames per second in your favorite game, should the option be required.
The 1000R’s screen is curved tight enough to make any gamer green with envy. Most equivalent monitors on the market go for a curvature of between 1500R and 1800R, so it will take some getting used to, even if you’ve played through a curved screen before. It gives an incredible feeling of immersion when you launch a game – we are almost enveloped by the screen, especially for graphical environments as rich as those of Subnautica orElite Dangerous.
This means that navigating around your standard desktop, when you’re not gaming, will require some adjustment. However, this feeling of “fish bowl” is easily overcome after a few days of use. Samsung has chosen to operate a VA (vertically aligned) panel, which may have made some analysts tick, given that this technology is often found to be associated with issues such as motion blur, ghosting, or some lag. We didn’t encounter any issues during our testing, with the Samsung Odyssey G7 almost blending in with an IPS display with similar color quality and brightness.
