In a new interview, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown creative director Alain Jarniou compared his game to the competition, most notably the Forza Horizon series. Yarniu acknowledges that Solar Crown will have fewer cars than Forza, but the goal will be to earn and invest in fewer cars through upgrades and customization.
“In Forza Horizon, you do Wheelspin and you get two cars. Or complete a mission and get another car. You have a lot of cars in the garage. But you don’t work for that. There are fewer cars in TDU, but choose these cars. The relationship you have with your garage is stronger in TDU than in any other game. You have to earn money to buy the cars of your dreams. Spend time with your machine, improving it, playing with it and showing it to other players. “
Plus, even though you might end up with a smaller garage than other open world racing games, each ride should be unique.
“The idea is to be more simulation than The Crew or Forza Horizon, which are quite arcade. Part of the fun of driving is having something realistic but not too simulation. But we want to give players the freedom to customize their driving. , which helps to get closer to simulation if they want to. I want the feeling of driving the right cars with the right feeling to be stronger in TDU than in Forza Horizon. This will not be a racing simulator, but a driving simulator. Yarniu also promises that while Solar Crown’s Hong Kong is slightly smaller than some of Test Drive Unlimited’s maps in the past (Oahu is 600 square miles and Hong Kong is only 30), it will be much denser and geographically diverse. As for when the game might come, the KT Racing team wants to get it right, but don’t expect to have to wait years.
Starting now, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will be released for PC, Xbox Series X / S and PS5 in 2023.
