Tesla’s wireless charging mat can do what Apple couldn’t

It’s been about five years since Apple introduced the AirPower charging mat. It will appear in stores in 2018. However, after many problems during development, production and testing, disappeared the AirPower silently in the eternal hunting grounds, even before one appeared working in the shops. Apple simply couldn’t do it.

Tesla van wireless charging platform

Well, Tesla unveiled its “wireless charging platform” last week presented. It is capable of wirelessly charging three devices simultaneously. However, it’s not exactly beneficial. Tesla wants $300 for it. Customers (in the US) can already order it now. The first units should be delivered in February.

The technology that Tesla uses for the wireless charging mat is the same that the manufacturer has chosen for the Cybertruck. That platform, FreePower, was developed by Aira. The big advantage of this technology is that no matter where on the “carpet” you place a device, it can be charged anywhere. This is in contrast to many other wireless charging accessories, where your tablet, smartphone or other device must be placed in a specific place to activate wireless charging.

Other cheaper alternatives

Where Apple failed, Tesla succeeds, and the electric car maker is certainly not alone. For example, Belkin has long had a wireless charging accessory that allows you to charge three (Apple) devices at the same time. Moreover, with a price tag of 100 euros, it is much cheaper than Tesla’s “wireless charging platform”.
