(Elbil24): Elbil24 recently wrote about the new version of Tesla’s charging stations, often called the Tesla Supercharger.
This now comes in version 4, which includes this change:
Now the hole disappears
The cable
Several international websites are now writing, including InsideEVs, that Tesla’s first V4 chargers are now open for testing in the Netherlands. Youtuber Electricfelix is among the first to attend and he has documented the charging experience.
One of the first things he notices is the much talked about charging cable, which on the V4 chargers is significantly longer than before.
This comes in very handy for electric drivers who don’t drive a Tesla. On the V3 chargers, the cable is too short if you have the charging port on the right side at the back or by the front wheel. This has often resulted in creative parking in an attempt to connect to the charger, which in turn has affected other charging customers.
The new V4 charging cable is attached to the left side of the charging post, while the charging gun is located on the right side. Here you see a sketch of what V4 (left) and V3 (right) look like:
Up to 600 kW power?
It is not yet known what the performance of the new V4 chargers are, but the website Teslarati refers to a poster where the properties are stated to be up to 1000 volts and 615 kW.
The poster still shows the output power at 250 kW. The fact that the new V4 chargers have 1,000 volts available shows that Tesla has prepared for the signaled transition to 800V charging.
When 800V charging actually becomes a reality is not a given, but Tesla is constantly taking steps to improve its charging offer. Recently it became clear that Tesla allows other cars to charge at their charging stations in the USA.
In Norway, this happened at an earlier time. In the latest price survey conducted by Tesla Owners Club Norway (TOCN) it appears that 81 of the total 102 stations in Norway can also be used by people who do not have a Tesla.
The Supercharger stations in Norway are available in two versions, either 2nd or 3rd generation. The difference between these two is primarily that the v3 chargers can provide 250 kW maximum power, while the v2 chargers settle for 150 kW.
