Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has recently praised the real-world simulation and video generation capabilities of the company. This comes after the announcement of OpenAI’s Sora generative video model, which allows users to create videos simply by typing in a text prompt.
OpenAI unveiled Sora on their website, showcasing a series of generative AI videos created by the system. In response to this, Musk took to X (a social media platform) to showcase some of Tesla’s own generative videos that were debuted by the company last year. He has been actively engaging with users and posting about both OpenAI and Tesla’s efforts in real-world video generation.
One user suggested that Tesla should create a video game, to which Musk replied that he has wanted to do that for a long time. However, he mentioned that the company’s focus is on releasing unsupervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) to the public before venturing into game development. Musk believes that Tesla’s real-world simulation and video generation capabilities are the best in the world, but they need to prioritize safety before branching out into other projects.
Musk also revealed that Tesla has had the capability to do real-world video generation with accurate physics for about a year. However, the generative videos created using this system were not very interesting as they were based on training data from Tesla’s cars. Despite this, Musk emphasized that Tesla’s video generation surpasses OpenAI in terms of predicting extremely accurate physics, which is crucial for self-driving technology.
The introduction of Sora by OpenAI has impressed many users, as it not only generates AI videos from text prompts but also allows for changes in styles and environments of input videos. A user named Min Choi shared a thread showcasing some of the impressive capabilities of the generative video model.
It is worth noting that Musk has had a complicated relationship with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. While he served on the company’s board with Altman in the past, Musk has been critical of OpenAI’s transition from a non-profit to a for-profit company. In response, he launched his own AI company called xAI, which released its first product, a generative language model called Grok, in November.
Overall, Musk’s praise for Tesla’s real-world simulation and video generation capabilities highlights the company’s commitment to advancing AI technology. With ongoing developments in this field, it will be interesting to see how Tesla continues to push the boundaries of innovation in the future.
