This weekend, Tesla tested its electric pickup in New York City. Given its atypical design, the machine obviously did not go unnoticed. On Saturday, the automaker posted a video of the test on its Twitter account: it shows the huge vehicle, topped with dazzling headlights, passing in front of Radio City Music Hall.
The vehicle had also been seen the day before, crossing Times Square, not without turning several heads in its path. Composed of the same alloy as that used for rockets of SpaceX, and sporting very futuristic lines, the Cybertruck caused a sensation. Many pedestrians have recorded their passage and published it on social networks.
But as impressive as it is, it seems that this giant pickup does not follow all the rules of the Highway Code in force in New York. For starters, according to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, all vehicles in the state must be equipped with exterior side mirrors. However, the Cybertruck does not. Instead, it relies on an internal side camera system.
An event widely broadcast on the networks
Moreover, its lighting system – the two light bars that can be seen in front of and at the top of the vehicle on the video – is very dazzling and particularly annoying for the driver of the vehicle who is in front of it. Again, this equipment is absolutely not legal under New York State law.

It’s hard to imagine this electric juggernaut traveling quietly on the small roads of France. A priori, its dimensions hardly make it suitable for urban use …
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, had announced that the Cybertruck would be on display during its visit to New York, on the occasion of its appearance on the show Saturday Night Live. After causing a sensation on the streets of the city, the vehicle was indeed displayed at a Tesla dealership in the Meatpacking District. Many visitors were therefore eager to take a closer look at the futuristic pickup.
A production date still unknown
« More versatile than a pickup and more efficient than a sports car », This is how the electric vehicle is presented on the manufacturer’s website. The vehicle has been designed for maximum durability and safety: its heavy-duty, cold-rolled 30X stainless steel body, along with armored glass, gives the vehicle increased strength and endurance.
In its most efficient configuration – with three engines – the Cybertruck is capable of reaching a speed of 96 km / h in less than three seconds! For this same model, the vehicle’s range is estimated at around 800 kilometers. The vehicle starts at $ 39,900 (for the single-engine version); it will take $ 30,000 more for the best performing model. However, to date, the device is only available for pre-order.
Because despite the hype around this vehicle, the official release date of the Cybertruck has still not been communicated. On this point, Elon Musk has always remained rather vague; in March, he announced on Twitter that the release date of his electric pickup would be ” probably in the second trimester »Of 2021. But production should probably start at the end of the year, or even in 2022. In any case, the CEO did not give any new details during his intervention on the show Saturday Night Live. One thing is certain, the vehicle will be produced by the new Gigafactory in Austin, Texas – the company’s 5th Gigafactory, which began construction last summer.
