Tesla will pay a fine of NOK 136,000 / car for reducing the range and charging speed

Tesla will soon have considerable expenses. This is due to the outcome of a lawsuit in Norway, where a class action lawsuit was filed by the owner of Tesla electric cars, for whom the 2019.16.1 and 16.2 updates significantly reduced the range and charging speed of Supercharger chargers. Specifically, the Tesla Model S 85 and Model X 85, which were produced until 2016, received a range reduction (probably by a reduction in the charging range) and a reduction in the maximum charging speed after this update in order to increase battery life. The owners waited longer than before to charge.

One of the owners reported that while after the first approximately 200,000 km, his range decreased by only 6%, then his “overnight” (within 5 weeks after the update) decreased by another 11%. In general, the owners talked about a reduction of about 12 to 30 miles (about 18 to 48 km). The question now is to what extent this fine will actually work. Each of the 30 owners who filed this lawsuit will receive NOK 136,000 (CZK 339,000) if Tesla does not appeal by the end of May, however, Tesla sold about 10,000 of these cars at that time. If it happened to happen to everyone, it could be almost NOK 1.4 billion (CZK 3.5 billion, or about 160-170 million USD). A similar lawsuit was filed against Tesla in the United States for the same reason.
