Tesla began to penetrate the market in Southeast Asia. Regarding investment, Indonesia is still negotiating with Tesla while in Thailand it has been registered. What is the difference?
Tesla is said to have registered in Thailand. This information was obtained from the website of the Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce Thailand, Tesla Company (Thailand) Ltd, which said that the electric car manufacturer owned by Elon Musk had been registered as a new company in Thailand.
The initial investment value is said to be around 3 million baht or around Rp 1.2 billion, as quoted from The Thaiger.
The appendix does not state that Tesla will produce or assemble electric cars.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, in a meeting with the Indonesian House of Representatives Budget Agency, said Tesla only sells vehicles in Thailand. While cooperation with Indonesia is the basis for production, Luhut said the stage is still under negotiation.
“If there is something like what is said (Tesla’s investment) in Thailand, it is only the showroom. So we are only agents, we are not agents, we want to produce,” said Luhut in a live streaming broadcast quoted on Monday (13/6/2022).
“But for the production process, there are still a lot of processes, so there are still a lot of negotiations regarding this car,” he added.
Previously, Tesla was said to be setting up a factory in the Batang area, Central Java. There Tesla can get electricity supply from renewable sources.
Information regarding the Tesla factory was previously conveyed by the Minister of Investment / Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia. Bahlil revealed this after opening the Road to G20: Investment Forum event at the Alila Hotel, Solo. He started his explanation about Batang Regency which will become the center of an integrated industrial area.
