Tesla: US agency is investigating allegations of unwanted acceleration

The U.S. Department of Road Safety (NHTSA) is investigating cases where Tesla vehicles are said to have accelerated unintentionally and without driver intervention. A total of 500,000 Model S, Model X and Model 3 cars from 2013 to 2019 are affected, as the authority explained.

In a complaint, the NHTSA had already been asked to take action on December 19 last year. An anonymous applicant pointed out in the document that because of the sudden acceleration of Tesla vehicles 127 consumer complaints were submitted to the NHTSA. According to the applicant, there were 110 accidents with 52 injuries. Many of the consumers concerned reported that their vehicle suddenly accelerated while trying to park.

The U.S. agency plans to review the application and then decide whether there is sufficient evidence to initiate an investigation into Tesla. Of Tesla initially no opinion was available.
