Tesla presented today the new Model 3and the car is already available for order, with delivery in October-November 2023. The maximum range rises to 678 km.
It was known that it was coming to the market, spy photos of this model, unofficially called “Highland”, kept appearing. Unfortunately, compared to previous rumors, the final version does not have lightbar type taillights, which would have been very cool, but still traditional ones, but now otherwise integrated into the tailgate.
From what I can see, the front has been subtly redesigned. The headlights are different, flatter, less “bubbly”, and the hood offers improved aerodynamics which means increased autonomy. At the rear, the new taillights are integrated into the tailgate.
The interior looks similar to the Tesla Model Y. The same large screen in the center, 15.4 inches, but now with thinner bezels, space for wireless charging of two phones under it, probably the same large storage volumes under it and in the center armrest and in the doors. All the seats are heated and the front ones are also ventilated now.
The dash appears to no longer contain wood, like the Model Y, but is made entirely of aluminum. In the back, an 8-inch screen appeared in the tail of the central armrest. From what I see on the official website, it can be used by the rear passengers to adjust the ventilation and heating in the seats, plus for entertainment. The car used to come with YouTube, Netflix, Disney and others pre-installed anyway, now maybe they can be used on the go by the rear passengers.
The old Model 3 had a two-piece panoramic sunroof separated in the center by an anti-roll bar. The new Model 3 uses the same solution. Model Y remains the only one with a one-piece glass roof, but not that it matters (indeed I could find disadvantages in case of break-ins or accidents).
Another novelty in the interior is the presence of ample ambient lights. The Model 3 has a configurable light outline on the doors and dashboard, seen subtly in red in the image above. Spy shots of the Cybertruck show a similar solution on that model as well.
The USB-C ports each provide up to 65W of charging power. The new audio system integrates 17 speakers, two subwoofers and two amplifiers for the Long Range and 9 vehicles
speakers, a subwoofer and an amplifier for Standard Range vehicles.
The steering wheel is more complex. Gone are the levers behind it, being replaced by physical and tactile buttons placed on the steering wheel. This means that including the PNDR driving modes and the autopilot will be able to be adjusted from the buttons.
Model 3 rear drive: 42,990 euros, autonomy 554 km WLTP, hundred in 6.1 seconds. Model 3 Long Range (dual engine): 50,990 euros, autonomy 678 km WLTP, hundred in 4.4 seconds.
These are the estimated ranges with 18-inch tires. The WLTP ones (513 and 629 km respectively) are calculated with 19-inch rims. The only extras are paint, a towbar and advanced autopilot, which also does lane changes on the highway and a few other tricks. In principle, however, the basic configuration at the above price is good for 90% of those who want it. With Rabla Plus, about 10,000 euros are removed from that price.
