Tesla to build one fifth fewer cars after factory forced shutdown | NOW

Car maker Tesla produced nearly 20 percent fewer cars in the second quarter than in the previous three months. This is evident from figures published by the company on Thursday. In the second quarter, the factory in Fremont, USA, was closed for over six weeks.

In mid-March, Tesla was forced to close the California plant in connection with the outbreak of COVID-19, as car production was not considered an essential activity. Two months later, CEO Elon Musk announced that he would reopen the factory.

Between early April and late June, 82,272 Teslas rolled off the line. There were 102,672 in the previous quarter. Fewer of the Model S were built. According to Musk, car production has now returned to the level of before the corona crisis.

Against a decrease in production, there was an increase in the number of delivered Teslas. In the second quarter, the manufacturer delivered 90,650 cars. That was 88,400 a quarter earlier.

Earlier this week, in an internal email, Musk instructed employees to go the extra mile to ensure that the company does not lose money despite the corona crisis.

It is not yet known whether it has succeeded. Tesla comes later with its profit figures.
