Tesla is having a hard time in China because the competition is fierce. In fact, it’s so heavy that they’ve recently lowered their prices on all models, making the locals (myself included) quite angry with Tesla. For example, on paper I saw my cars become worth 40,000 euros less. The reason as I mentioned is because the competition here is unprecedented. There are so many car manufacturers here and you regularly see a new brand (or a separate label from a well-known brand) appear, one even more beautiful than the other.
And now Tesla is going to imitate the same trick again? As soon as those battery packs become a success, parties will jump on top of this in no time and do they also have the knowledge that Tesla has after a factory has been built here? Isn’t this totally hopeless what Tesla is doing here (again)?
I get that Musk wants to be in the biggest market in the world, but when will companies learn that unless they have an unprecedented edge, they have no chance at all?
