At the celebration of the start of regular deliveries of Model 3 from the new Gigafactory in China (GF3), Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he would also set up a design and development center in the country to create a new electric car for the global market , Now Tesla is already looking for employees for the new center in Chinese social media – and not only showed Model 3 and Model S in the pictures, but also a previously unknown vehicle in a smaller-looking format.
The nameless car can be clearly identified as belonging to Tesla, especially on the front – it is designed like the previous Tesla electric cars and also shows the logo on the front trunk lid. Overall, it looks more compact and somewhat higher than Model 3. The body ends directly behind the rear wheels, so the interior should be large in relation to the outer dimensions.
However, Musk had said at the celebration in China that the design center planned there should “perhaps produce something radical like the cyber truck”. The electric car in the Tesla image, on the other hand, looks interesting and aerodynamic, but relatively conventional compared to the Tesla Cybertruck.
The demand in China for the locally produced Model 3 is currently huge, but despite a price cut in early January, the electric car still costs far more than the average Chinese spends on its vehicle. A smaller and, above all, cheaper Tesla model could therefore open up new customer groups.
The same applies to Western markets: Actually, the Model 3 with prices starting at $ 35,000 should become the first Tesla for the masses, but the cheapest option is currently only available in the USA and also by phone only there. In Germany, the Model 3 costs at least 44,390 euros (less funding).
