Tesla remotely disconnected autopilot for which they did not pay

The American Tesla, it seems, has set a precedent in which it is possible to deprive a car of a piece of functional equipment at a distance if it is not corny paid. That is, as with a phone or home Internet: if you didn’t pay, get a lock, for which a mouse click is enough.

A certain American (the Jalopnik portal who dug up this story does not disclose his name for privacy reasons) purchased a used Tesla Model S 2017 electric sedan from a third-party dealer in December 2019, who, in turn, bought this car directly from Tesla through an auction in November 2019. .

When buying a car, according to the documents, a proprietary Tesla autopilot was installed with the “advanced” Enhanced Autopilot function (automatic rearrangement and exit from highways) with the possibility to upgrade to the Full Self Driving version in the future, with which the automatics recognize traffic signals and support traffic in the city . This software costs a considerable $ 8000.

However, the buyer of a used car did not enjoy the expensive option for long. In December, the autopilot was updated to the latest version, but then, after the next audit of programs, Tesla simply disconnected the system remotely without notifying the owner.

The indignant buyer, of course, asked Tesla a question, to which he was told that he did not specifically pay for this option, he did not have the right to use it, so the company turned it off. Thus, we can assume that Tesla offers such expensive options as if by subscription or by a monthly fee, but when changing the owner, you have to pay for them again. At the same time, Jalopnik reports that this is not the first such case with the disconnection of the Tesla autopilot remotely. The editors of the portal sent several requests to Tesla on this situation, but so far have not received a response.
