Tesla, the electric vehicle giant led by Elon Musk, is facing a meaningful challenge in China, the world’s largest car market. The company has been ordered to address safety concerns affecting 1.2 million of its vehicles, both imported and locally produced at its Shanghai Gigafactory. This move comes after China’s State Administration for Market Regulation identified software issues that could pose security risks, particularly related to electronic power steering and reverse parking cameras.The solution? Tesla will deploy an over-the-air (OTA) software update, allowing the company to remotely fix the issues without requiring customers to visit service centers. This approach is not only efficient but also cost-free for tesla owners. “These enable software to be updated remotely via the Internet without the cars having to visit a service station,” the company explained.

Earlier this year, the company resolved issues for approximately 240,000 vehicles, and in August 2024, it tackled a much larger recall of nearly 1.7 million cars in China.
