Tesla prices are embarrassing

Tesla raises the prices of its cars throughout the year. Now the cheapest car in the lineup is the Model 3, which starts at $46,990 in the US. That’s up more than $10,000 from the model’s launch just a few years ago, and is indicative of the price movement seen across the Tesla family. This year, the Model X has increased its price by about $16,000 since January 1st. Owner Elon Musk has acknowledged that this is a serious problem.

“We’ve raised prices quite a few times. They’re frankly at uncomfortable levels. But we’ve also had a lot of disruption in the supply chain and manufacturing, and we’ve got crazy inflation,” Musk said, via Automotive News.

However, the billionaire believes that the economy will soon improve and even gave a little hope that pricing could change. “I think that inflation will decrease towards the end of the year. I hope that at some point we can reduce prices a little,” Musk believes.

At the heart of the pricing is a combination of inflation and supply chain issues, Musk added. “At the moment, Tesla’s biggest problem is very high production, which will probably reach 40,000 cars per week by the end of the year.
