Tesla has announced plans to begin selling the Cyberquad for Kids ATV in Europe. This is a risky decision, since the US Consumer Product Safety Commission previously banned the sale of this children’s ATV in the United States, considering it too dangerous.
In the American market, Tesla quickly sold out the first batch of Cyberquad for Kids in the amount of 5,000 units at a price of $1,900. However, the second batch was withdrawn from sale by decision of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The reason for the recall was a complaint from a 36-year-old man who suffered a shoulder injury after falling while riding a children’s ATV with his child. After an investigation, regulators decided to recall the Cyberquad for Kids because the “mechanical suspension and maximum tire pressure” did not meet the requirements for a children’s vehicle.
The kids’ Cyberquad is produced by Tesla in partnership with Radio Flyer. It is equipped with a small 500 W electric motor and a 288 Wh battery, and is capable of a top speed of 16 km/h. In essence, Cyberquad for Kids is a smaller copy of the full-fledged Cyberquad electric ATV, which was supposed to be an option for buyers of the Cybertruck electric pickup truck.
This year, Tesla has already launched sales of Cyberquad for Kids in China, and now it should appear in Europe. At the same time, nothing is yet known about the release date of the full-fledged Cyberquad electric ATV.
