Tesla offers ‘Full Self-Driving’ in subscription form for $199 per month – Sound and Vision – News

Tesla has a subscription form of its Full Self-Drivingpackage introduced. for $199 a month, Tesla owners with compatible hardware in their cars can take advantage of the features. FSD is also available for purchase for a one-time fee of $10,000.

For those who still have the now discontinued Enhanced Self-Driving package, a subscription costs $99 per month. The subscription prices are exclusive of VAT. For FSD, the so-called hardware level 3.0 from the automaker is required. Tesla introduced that level of hardware in its cars in 2019. If owners do not have that hardware, it first requires an upgrade that costs $1500 once. Which reports, among others, Electrek.

Tesla reports on a supportpagina that the offer is only valid in the US for now. Euro prices are not yet available, but the one-time upgrade for FSD costs 3800 euros in the Netherlands and Belgium. For that money, users get navigate on autopilot, auto lane change, autopark, summon, full self-driving computer, traffic light on stop sign control.

Despite the package being called Full Self-Driving, Tesla warns that the feature package will not allow Teslas to drive without driver input. Earlier this year, a Tesla engineer stated that Tesla is currently… on Level 2 autonomy and that Musk is too optimistic in his predictions about the progress of Tesla’s self-driving systems development.

Those who do not go for FSD will receive the Autopilot package as standard in their Tesla. This consists of adaptive cruise control and assistance with staying in one’s own lane, in places where those lines are clearly visible on the road.

It is the first time that Tesla is offering features to its cars on a subscription basis as an alternative to a one-time purchase. CEO Elon Musk announced the offer, but it was postponed several times.

Tesla isn’t the only automaker to have features as a service wants to offer. Porsche, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Mercedes and General Motors, known for Chevrolet, have according to a piece from Bloomberg also plans to offer certain car functionalities in a subscription form.
