Market research company JATO, according to the media Engine1 order, collected data on the best-selling cars in the world in the 1st quarter of this year and the results are as follows – the best-selling car in the world in the first three months of this year is the Tesla Model Y. This is not about the electric car category or anything else – it is the overall best-selling car among for absolutely all cars for sale.
Of course, this is an important moment for the car industry, because for the first time an electric car is the best-selling car in the world. JATO collected data for 53 countries of the world, as well as for several other important markets, arriving at the result that the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling car in the world.
Last summer, the head of Tesla, Elon Musk, came on board with a typically ambitious announcement for him – Model Y will become the best-selling new car in the world in 2023. Although many looked at another loud statement by Musk with undisguised skepticism, this time his words have come true. For the excellent sales results, Tesla can mainly thank the following things – the price reduction, as well as higher production capacities, which allowed to expand and deliver more machines in different countries. The Model Y was actually in a very good position last year as well, trailing only Toyota’s bestsellers Corolla and RAV4.
Data compiled for the first three months of the year show that 267,200 Model Y units were purchased during that time. It is said to be about 69% more when compared to the same period a year ago. Demand is high in all major regions – China, North America and also Europe.
