For the first time in history, an electric car could become the best-selling passenger car in the world by the end of 2023.
We are talking about the Tesla Model Y, Cleantechnica reported, citing analyst Troy Treslick. According to Treslick, global sales of the Tesla Model Y electric crossover in the outgoing year will amount to about 1.2 million units, which is 13% higher than its closest competitor, the Toyota Corolla – 1.08 million vehicles.
“The Model Y is expected to be the world’s best-selling car this year, with more than 1.2 million units sold. Unfortunately, this is not reported much in the media because Tesla does not release sales data for the Model Y. I wish they would because the Model Y outperforms the Toyota Corolla,” said Troy Treslick.
The expert noted that for now we are talking only about the forecast. However, this Tesla model in 2023 is already ahead of the Toyota Corolla in terms of the number of units sold over three quarters of 2023.
