Tesla Model 3 loses only 5.5% percent in value in one year> teslamag.de

The Tesla Model 3 has the lowest loss of value among all one-year used cars in the USA. This is the result of a current analysis by iSeeSars.com. The mobility research company from Woburn, Massachusetts (USA) has evaluated the prices of over 6 million new and used cars sold between August 2019 and January 2020. As a result, used Model 3 led with an average loss of value of only 5.5 percent after one year. The average of all vehicles was 25.2 percent.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made his view of the development of the residual values of Tesla vehicles clear several times. Only this week he commented on Twitter on Twitter, the possible ban on vehicles with petrol or diesel engines, which British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had brought into play: “The residual value for petrol / diesel cars will decrease drastically in the coming years,” wrote he.

In an interview in early April 2019, Musk had gone one step further. In the Artifical Intelligence Podcast of the AI researcher Lex Fridman from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA), he said at the time: “Buying a car today is an investment in the future. I think if you buy a Tesla today, you are buying an increase in value and not a loss in value. ” As one of the main reasons for this perspective, Musk later stated on Twitter that the introduction of fully autonomous driving (FSD) would increase the value of Tesla vehicles many times over, as their usefulness would increase.

Of course, such announcements should not yet justify the small loss in value of Tesla Model 3 in the present. “The Model 3 had the highest number of pre-orders of any car ever produced, and its order backlog helped further increase the high demand for the vehicle,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly, explaining the effect in a company press release. The vehicle only reached its production targets in July 2018, and because it is so new on the market and because of the high level of satisfaction among the owners, there is a low inventory of used versions, says Ly.

It has so far been practically impossible to determine an average resale value of used Model 3 in Germany. The first registrations of the Model 3 in Germany were only in February 2019. A search at Autoscout24 only gives 42 results. Only 26 of them are used, including 15 from private sellers. The market in Germany for used Model 3 is simply too small and young to make reliable statements.
