Tesla May Lay 9,900 Employees

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Elon Musk, chief executive of Tesla expressed his bad feeling about the current economy. In fact, according to him, the electric car maker must cut 10% of its employees.

In a report to the United States Stock Exchange, in 2021 Tesla’s total employees will reach 99,920 employees. If this hunch is realized, there will be 9,992 Tesla employees who will experience layoffs.

This information comes from an internal email seen by Reuters. The email was titled “pause all hiring worldwide” or suspend all worldwide hiring.

Reuters reported that Elon Musk’s email was sent to Tesla executives Thursday local time. Meanwhile Tesla was not immediately available for comment, quoted Friday (3/6/2022).

Meanwhile, earlier this week Elon Musk reportedly required his employees to return to the office again. This is information from Electrek and Bloomberg in an email that was also sent to company executives.

In addition to forcing employees to return to work from office (WFO), Elon Musk also stated that employees must spend a minimum of 40 hours per week in the office or ‘get away from Tesla’. According to him, the amount is much less than the demand for factory work.

Elon Musk does not allow working remotely. But it must be in a number of circumstances, indicating the request is extraordinary in order to be approved.

“If there are outstanding contributors who don’t allow it, I will review and approve exceptions in person,” he said.

Elon Musk claims he almost lives at the Tesla factory. According to him, this is the reason for the survival of the company.

“The higher up you are, the more visible you are. Of course there are companies that don’t need it, but when was the last time they delivered a great new product? It’s been a long time,” Elon Musk explained in the email.

In his Twitter, he did not deny the authenticity of the email. It even states those who disagree ‘should pretend to work elsewhere’.
