Tesla makes it official, announces relocation of headquarters to Texas

(Bloomberg) – Tesla Inc. officially said goodbye to California and greeted its new headquarters, Texas, saying Wednesday in a report for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that the corporate headquarters is now at its Gigafactory. in Austin.

Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk, who clashed with public health officials in Alameda County, California, during the early days of the pandemic, announced the plan at Tesla’s annual shareholders meeting in October without specifying a timeline. The Tesla factory in Austin, which will make the Model Y and the next Cybertruck, is nearing completion.

Musk had said that the shortage of affordable housing in the San Francisco Bay Area and long commuting times were some of the factors limiting Tesla’s ability to expand. However, the company will maintain a strong presence in the region as it is building a new factory in the Central Valley city of Lathrop for the Megapack, its battery-powered energy storage product.

In 2020, the billionaire moved to Texas and since then, he has spent much of his time near Brownsville, where his company SpaceX builds the Starship, its next-generation spacecraft designed to take humans to the Moon and Mars.

Musk is the richest person in the world with a value of about $ 287 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Unlike California, Texas is one of the few states that does not tax personal income.
