According to the Tesla website on the 7th (local time), the starting price of the basic Model 3 model was lowered by $1,250 (about 1.68 million won) from $40,240 (about 54.3 million won) to $38,990 (about 52.6 million won). The price of the long range Model 3 went down from $47,240 (about 63.7 million won) to $1,250, and the Model 3 Performance went down from $53,240 (about 71.8 million won) to $2,250 (about 3.03 million won).
Tesla lowered the price of its SUV, Model Y, by $2,000 (about 2.7 million won) from $54,490 (about 73.5 million won) to $52,490 (about 70.8 million won).
Tesla began lowering car prices at the end of last year as global electric vehicle competition intensified. In the largest markets, the United States and China, prices have been adjusted several times, including lowering and raising prices.
This price cut came after the announcement that Tesla vehicle deliveries in the third quarter were below market expectations. Tesla announced in its latest performance report that it delivered 435,059 vehicles in the third quarter (July-September). This is a 7% decrease from the number of vehicles delivered (466,140 units) in the second quarter of last year (April to June). It was nearly 30,000 units lower than the market forecast (461,000 units).
After the price cut on the 6th (local time), Tesla’s stock price closed 0.18% higher, from $260.05 to $260.53.
