Before that Start of regular deliveries of locally produced Model 3 in China Tesla lowered prices for the electric car. This can be seen from the updated Tesla order pages in China. Accordingly, the price for the only variant built in the Chinese Gigafactory, the Model 3 with standard range and rear-wheel drive (SR plus), was reduced by around 30,000 yuan to 323,800 yuan.
Including government subsidies, the purchase price is 299,050 yuan, equivalent to a good 37,000 euros. This makes the Model 3 SR + noticeably cheaper in China than, for example, in Germany, where Tesla charges at least 44,390 euros for it; however, € 2,000 and soon € 3,000 in government purchases are expected to be deducted soon.
In China, Tesla had just before the turn of the year hand over the first 15 Model 3s from the local Gigafactory (GF3) to the customer, which were exclusively our own employees. Regular deliveries are scheduled to begin next week, according to Tesla. The GF3 was built and ready for production in less than a year; since October vehicles regularly rolled out of the factory and were picked up by vans or parked.
About the upcoming price cut in China the Bloomberg news agency had previously reported; the announcement spoke of a price reduction of up to 20 percent through the use of more local parts. As Bloomberg now reports, Tesla’s Model 3 comes closer to competing electric cars from Chinese and other foreign manufacturers with the new price.
The electric car market in China has recently become more competitive because the government phased out generous funding schemes at the end of 2019. Support for the purchase of electric vehicles continues to exist.
