Tesla, LG to Foxconn Plan to Build Factory in Batang, Central Java

JAKARTAKOMPAS.com – Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said, the largest automotive company in the United States (US), Tesla Inc plans to invest in Trunk Industrial Area (KIB), Central Java.

Not only Tesla, LG Energy Solution and Foxconn are also planning to build factories there. This was stated by Bahlil in the Road to G20 Investment Forum agenda, Wednesday (18/5/2022).

“We know that Central Java will become the center of one of the best industrial areas in Indonesia, namely in Batang. There, there will be big companies such as LG, Foxconn, then Tesla too, God willing, including several other companies,” said Bahlil virtually quoted Thursday (19/5/2022).

Bahlil reveals Tesla’s investment plans: batteries and electric cars

Bahlil further said that Tesla plans to invest in Indonesia this year. But he couldn’t confirm the exact company it belonged to Elon Musk will invest because there has been no signing of the agreement.

“When asked when (Tesla’s investment) will enter, God willing, it will be 2022. But I can’t announce the month yet. Because we haven’t signed the agreement yet,” he continued.

He mentioned, there are two forms of investment that will be invested by Elon Musk in the country.

“Insha Allah, Tesla will enter Indonesia. He will enter into two major investments, the first is about the car battery ecosystem. The second is the car,” he said.

Elon Musk invited by Jokowi to Indonesia

As is known, recently, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with the CEO of Tesla Inc, as well as the founder of Space X, Elon Musk in Boca Chica, USA.

For approximately 1 hour, Jokowi was invited by Elon Musk to tour the Space X facilities.

From the meeting, Jokowi invited the richest people in the world to come to Indonesia.

Elon Musk responded to this invitation and made an effort to visit Indonesia in November this year.
