Tesla is calling in almost half a million Model 3 and Model S cars

The American electric car manufacturer Tesla is calling over 475,000 Model 3 and Model S cars for service due to problems with the reversing camera and trunk, which increase the risk of an accident. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informed about it today. The total number of vehicles called is close to half a million cars delivered by Tesla last year.

The carmaker has not yet commented on the matter. According to NHTSA, it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths in connection with these problems.

The American carmaker is convening 356,309 Model 3 cars from 2017 to 2020 due to problems with the rear camera and 119,009 Model S cars due to problems with the front hood, NHTSA said.

For Model 3 sedans, “opening and closing the boot lid can damage the reversing camera wiring harness, disrupting the transmission of its image.” For Model S cars, problems with the front bonnet latch can open the luggage compartment “without warning and obstruct the driver’s view, which increases the risk of an accident,” said Tesla.

The NHTSA office also deals with Tesla due to other problems. With 580,000 Tesla cars, he didn’t like the fact that it was possible to play games on the car screen while driving. The carmaker has already eliminated such a possibility, but the investigation is still ongoing.

In August, after a series of accidents, the office began investigating the safety of the driver assistance system. Under NHTSA pressure, Tesla agreed in February to withdraw 135,000 touchscreen vehicles that could fail and increase the risk of an accident.
