Tesla Introduces Charge on Solar Feature for Electric Cars

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The electric car manufacturer, Tesla, is presenting a new feature called Charge on Solar which allows users to charge their electric cars using solar energy.

Tesla users who have a solar power generation system and energy storage device from Tesla, Powerwall, can activate the Charge on Solar feature via their cellphone with the Tesla application. Through the Charge on Solar feature which is activated via cellphone, users can set charging limits according to their needs.

According to a Tech Crunch report on Tuesday (18/7) the feature that was initially introduced in May under the name Drive on Sunshine can only be accessed by users of Tesla cars with a production year of 2021 and after which are also equipped with a Powerwall system.

Previously, car manufacturers had developed solar-powered cars since the 1950s. Starting with General Motors which makes the Sunmobile, a modified model of the Corvette that is rumored to be able to capture solar energy to move on stage during the Chicago Auto Show.

Since then, other car manufacturers such as Lightyear, Fisker, Karma, Toyota, and even Tesla have started to develop solar-powered cars. However, cars with roofs equipped with solar panels are not produced in large quantities.
