Tesla owners will soon be able to make video calls via their central console. The car’s built-in camera is used to capture the driver.
Tesla owners will soon be able to follow Zoom’s meetings from their car. The feature was announced by Zoom at their annual Zoomtopia event. Aside from a short video, the video calling platform shares some details. Tesla has not yet announced when the feature will be launched.
The Zoom app is integrated by the automaker into the center console of a Tesla Model S, 3, X and Y. Each Tesla (recent) has a camera inside that can record occupants. The same camera is now used by Zoom to imagine you. You may need to lean slightly towards the center, like in the video, to get the best possible image. I have no idea if it will stay comfortable for an hour.
Zoom users can sync their calendar with the Tesla app. This allows them to seamlessly start a meeting from the calendar in the car’s center console. If you don’t have a Premium Connectivity subscription (9.99 euros VAT included per month) to stream additional services via 4G, you can only use Zoom with WiFi connectivity.
It is still unclear if you can have a Zoom conversation even while on the go, but the possibilities seem slim to us. The video shows a situation where you need to upload and you can make a video call during that waiting period. Like most other center console apps, they stop automatically as soon as you start the car.
It is currently unclear which Tesla model the Zoom integration is compatible with. The manufacturer talks about “all new models”. Current owners who frequently use Zoom will have to wait for Tesla to clarify if their car is compatible too.
Zoom has announced many more Zoomtopia news. Here’s how the video platform becomes support for flexible work environments and launches it with Virtual agent your own chatbot service. Finally, Zoom announced a collaboration with ServiceNow for a better customer experience.
