The electric car manufacturer has to pay compensation to thousands of Norwegians because the charging speed of their cars has been slowed down.

The US electric car manufacturer Tesla In Norway, drivers of Model S models manufactured between 2013 and 2015 have to pay 136,000 Norwegian kroner each (converted 13.355 Euro) because the loading speed of their trolleys has been artificially slowed down, reports The Verge.
Software update affected batteries
The reason for this was a software update in 2019 that affected the vehicles’ batteries. In addition to slower loading speeds, it also resulted in reduced ranges. Numerous Tesla drivers filed complaints with the country’s mediation council. In late April, Tesla was finally sentenced to pay the damages.
Tesla now has until the end of May to transfer the money. The manufacturer can also appeal against the ruling.
Overhauled by VW
Norway is one of the largest markets for electric cars in the world. Around half of the cars sold last year were electric. Tesla dominated the sales charts for years, but was overtaken by VW in the past year.
Similar allegations in the US
In the USA, the electric car manufacturer is faced with similar allegations. In August 2019, a class action lawsuit was filed against Tesla in San Francisco. The plaintiffs accuse the automaker of having reduced the charging speed of older models. The range of the affected vehicles is said to have been reduced by up to 65 kilometers.
