The jury found that the electric car manufacturer had not taken reasonable steps to prevent racial harassment of agency worker Owen Diaz. He worked in 2015 and 2016 as an elevator operator at the Tesla factory in Fremont.

Tesla told employees that the court dealt with racial swearing at the factory and racist graffiti spray-painted on toilets. She also said that Diaz had complained about the harassment three times and that the company had intervened each time.

“Although we firmly believe that these facts do not justify the jury’s verdict in San Francisco, we acknowledge that we were not perfect in 2015 and 2016,” Tesla wrote.

She added that since Diaz worked in the company, she has undergone a number of changes. Among other things, it has created teams that will investigate employee complaints and ensure equal opportunities for employees in the company.
