Tesla gives customers their money back

The Tesla Cybertruck hit like a small bomb on 24 November 2019. Then it was shown for the first time officially. To great fanfare. The reception was, to say the least, divided. Someone dug it from the first second. Others hated it like the plague. But the orders and reservations poured in.

We had already heard about the car for a number of years. Now many expected Tesla to step up and get it into production. But it hasn’t turned out that way.

Refunds reservation amount

Some refer to it as the world’s most delayed car. We don’t know if that’s true, but there can’t be too much to do…

Now the American manufacturer is beginning to refund money to those who have reserved the Cybertruck in Australia. That’s not a good sign.

Tesla has confirmed to the car website www.arenaev.com that all Australian customers can now apply for a refund of the reservation amount.

Over 38,000 customers in Australia have made reservations for the car. Only customers in the USA and Canada have ordered more cars.

This is what Cybertruck looks like inside. Many have to wait a long time to get a seat behind this wheel.

A wave of cancellations?

Now there is speculation as to whether this is the start of a large wave of global cancellations of the car. And if Tesla has realized that they are not able to handle all incoming orders for the car, without it significantly weakening the capacity of the other models.

Tesla’s total annual production capacity, with all factories in full operation, is estimated to be 1.9 million cars. Of this, Cybertruck will probably be provided with between 150,000 and 200,000 cars annually, if everything goes smoothly.

Not to Norway

In other words: It will be a long time before all the allegedly 1.2 million who are waiting for the car can get behind the wheel. If the number is correct, there will be serious waiting times. While those who get the car early will probably be able to earn a good penny on it on the second-hand market. The mismatch between demand and access is palpable.

We in Norway and Europe do not get the car at all. Tesla founder Elon Musk confirmed that last year. The car does not meet EU requirements without extensive changes to the design.

The latest news is that the Cybertruck should be able to be delivered within the next few days. Maybe. If there are no further delays.

For us in Norway and Europe, the sports car Roadster will be the next new model out. When it will arrive is also quite unclear.

Broom has contacted Tesla Norway for comment, they have not responded to our inquiry.
