No cars will be rolling off the production line at the Tesla factory in Grünheide, Germany in the short term. Due to arson in a nearby electricity pylon, production will be halted until the end of next week, the company reports. Yesterday, Tesla said that production would restart early next week.
The damage for the manufacturer of electric cars is therefore increasing rapidly. Tesla already spoke of hundreds of millions of euros in damage yesterday and that was before it became known that the factory would remain closed for a few days longer. The 12,500 employees are currently at home.
Network manager Edis is working to restore power to the Tesla site. “A preliminary solution is being worked on with the highest priority,” the company said. Households and healthcare institutions in the surrounding area now have electricity again.
Deliberately sabotaged
Left-wing extremist activists from the so-called Vulkangruppe started a fire in the electricity pylon near the factory yesterday morning. In a letter published in local German media, the group writes that the factory was deliberately sabotaged because Tesla is “consuming the earth, raw materials, people and labor power.”
German Interior Minister Faeser calls the sabotage a serious crime.
