Despite the relatively high loyalty to the “Tesla” brand, a significant number of owners of electric cars of this brand return to their roots – a gasoline car, according to the “S&P Global Mobily” survey.
In addition, “Tesla Model Y” is the electric car with the highest customer brand loyalty in its segment, reaching 37.3 percent; in second place is “Ford Mustang Mach-E” with 18.5%. According to the survey, 70.5% of customers buy another electric car after “Tesla Model Y”, however the rest return to an internal combustion engine SUV or pickup truck.
Owners of “Tesla’s” electric flagship “Model S” also switch to cars of other brands, whose loyalty to the brand decreases with the age of the model (“Tesla Model S” entered the market in 2012). Most often, “Model S” drivers switch to electric “Lucid Air”, “Rivian R1T”, “Mercedes-Benz EQS” and “Rivian R1S”. Only 11.7 percent of “Model S” owners switch to the same brand “Model X”, and 7.9% – to “Model 3”.
For now, “Tesla” does not offer anything big for fans of SUVs and pickup trucks. The first “Tesla” electric pickup “Cybertruck”, which was presented back in 2019, was constantly postponed, however, its first copies rolled off the assembly line in Texas in July of this year, two years behind the originally promised deadline. However, serial production of “Cybertruck” has not yet started, for now the American car manufacturer promises to start it by the end of the year.
