The electric car maker Tesla has earned more than $ 1 billion for the first time in a quarter, world news agencies reported.
In the second quarter, the company delivered 201,250 cars, an unprecedented level despite the shortage of electronic chips and supply problems that have affected the automotive sector since the beginning of the year.
The group’s net profit has multiplied tenfold over the past quarter to $ 1.14 billion. Tesla’s turnover has almost doubled to $ 11.96 billion.
Tesla ‘s revenue from sale of carbon credits however, other companies began to decline, reaching $ 354 million in the second quarter from $ 518 million in the previous quarter.
Tesla has long dominated the electric car market, but with the advent of Volkswagen and Ford models, it is facing increasing competition. Tesla now accounts for 64 percent of U.S. electric car sales in the second quarter, up from 71 percent in the previous quarter and 83 percent for the same period last year.
On the occasion of announcing the results for the second quarter, the head of “Tesla” Elon Musk said that the situation with semiconductors remains serious and that it is unknown how long it will last. “But for the rest of the year, our growth will depend on the smallest element of our supply chain,” Musk said.
Tesla has not given up on forecasts to increase its deliveries by an average of 50 percent a year for several years. About the factories under construction in Berlin and Austin, the company believes it is on track to produce its first Model Y cars there this year. However, in order to focus more on these plants and because of the challenges in the international supply chain, Tesla has decided to postpone the start of production of its Semi truck until next year.
