GreenTheOnly, a well-known hacker, has revealed details of a shocking Tesla accident in California, USA. The impact came at 220 km / h, and the data posted by the hacker only leaves more questions. Neither Elon Musk nor Tesla comment on the matter.
What happened there?
The incident took place on the CA-24 highway near Lafayette. The hacker obtained the recording from a computer found in the Tesla wreckage at the junkyard. The video shows an American electrician dynamically accelerating along the middle lane of the highway. The second clip below shows interesting data from Tesla’s semi-autonomous driving systems.
Speed differential at impact 63MPH
This was not on autopilot at impact, but AP disengaged like 40 seconds before due to FCW. There was another FCW 2+ seconds before this impact. pic.twitter.com/nOhh9bzMAI— green (@greentheonly) November 12, 2020
At the moment of impact, the black box recorded a speed of 136.55 mph, or 219.7 km / h! The rear-hit Honda Civic was driving 101 km / h at that moment. slower. Unfortunately, little is known about the damage or the possible victims of the accident. The recording stops at the moment of collision, but it must be guessed that the loss was huge.
Why didn’t Tesla brake?
GreenTheOnly points out that it was not a direct mishap of Autopilot. Interestingly, however, the semi-autonomous driving mode turned off 40 seconds before the collision. What is more scary, although there were Collision Warning Signals (FCW), the vehicle did not automatically brake in an emergency. The strange thing about the whole thing is that the driver was accelerating all the time.
Tesla does not comment on this matter, and it is difficult to contact her officially. Elon Musk’s company has no press department, only … Twitter of its CEO. However, it seems that the American manufacturer will want to remain silent on this topic. Especially since Tesla’s CEO likely has the coronavirus.
