Tesla delivers first Cybertrucks to customers

After two years of delays and production problems, American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla will deliver the first copies of the Cybertruck model to customers on Thursday. The futuristic-looking Cybertruck is Tesla’s first step into the pickup truck market.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk will hand over the first stainless steel Cybertrucks, equipped with bulletproof glass, to customers on Thursday at Tesla’s headquarters in the American city of Austin, Texas. The entire event will also be streamed live.

A prototype of the electric pickup truck was first shown almost four years ago. The vehicle was initially expected to be available at the end of 2021, but the corona pandemic, supply chain shortages, inflation and technical problems caused significant delays.

Mass production

Despite the first deliveries, it will certainly take another year before large volumes of the Cybertruck can roll off the production line. Musk recently said that production could be scaled up to 250,000 vehicles per year by 2025.

The Cybertruck was originally supposed to cost $40,000, but Tesla has since removed the Cybertruck’s prices and specifications from its website. Not everyone is convinced of the potential profitability of the new vehicle. The big question is also whether the unusual design will not deter buyers.

Tesla is competing with car makers Ford, Stellantis and General Motors with the pick-up truck. General Motors’ Chevrolet Silverado has been one of the most popular cars in the US for years.
