Tesla’s First Production Cybertruck Rolls off Assembly Line, Two Years Behind Schedule

Tesla announced on Saturday that its first production Cybertruck electric pickup has finally rolled off the assembly line, nearly two years behind the original schedule. The company shared a photo on Twitter showing a group of workers in helmets and yellow vests surrounding the truck, with the caption, “First Cybertruck built at Giga Texas!” Tesla CEO Elon Musk retweeted the post, expressing his excitement about the milestone.

The Cybertruck was initially unveiled by Musk in late 2019, with Tesla stating that production would begin in late 2021. However, the company later cautioned that production would start slowly and in smaller numbers compared to its other vehicles. The unique design of the Cybertruck, with its wedge shape and stainless-steel body referred to as the exoskeleton, sets it apart from traditional pickups. While some analysts have criticized it as a niche product with limited appeal, Tesla remains optimistic about its potential.

In April, Musk stated that the company expected to deliver the first Cybertruck sometime in the July-through-September quarter. He acknowledged that the manufacturing process for the Cybertruck was different from other cars, making it a more complex and radical product. Tesla plans to gradually ramp up production as they fine-tune the manufacturing line.

The unveiling of the Cybertruck in 2019 encountered a setback when a window that was touted as unbreakable cracked when hit by a metal ball, prompting an expletive from Musk. Despite this hiccup, Tesla has continued to generate significant interest in the Cybertruck, with customers eagerly awaiting its release.

Initially, Tesla had announced three versions of the Cybertruck, priced between $40,000 and $70,000. However, the company later removed the prices from the order page, where customers can place a $100 deposit to secure their spot. This move has left potential buyers uncertain about the final pricing of the vehicle.

Tesla faces competition in the electric truck market, with rivals such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian Automotive’s R1T entering the scene. Unlike the Cybertruck, these competitors have opted for a more conventional pickup design. The electric truck market is rapidly expanding, and Tesla aims to establish its dominance in this segment.

Tesla is scheduled to report its second-quarter financial results on July 19, providing further insights into the company’s performance and progress with the Cybertruck production.

How has the completion of the first Cybertruck at the Giga Texas assembly line impacted Tesla’s plan to increase production capacity?

Tion would likely be delayed until 2022. Now, with the first production truck completed, Tesla seems to be making progress towards fulfilling its promise to deliver the highly anticipated electric pickup to customers.

The Cybertruck has generated significant buzz since its debut due to its unique and futuristic design. Featuring an angular and stainless-steel body, the pickup truck stands out from traditional models in the market. It boasts impressive specifications, including a range of up to 500 miles on a single charge, the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, and a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds.

Despite the delay in production, the Cybertruck has already garnered considerable attention, with pre-orders reportedly surpassing the 1 million mark shortly after its unveiling. This high demand further solidifies Tesla’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market and signifies a growing interest in electric pickups.

The construction of the first Cybertruck at the Giga Texas assembly line is a significant milestone for Tesla. Giga Texas, which is still under construction, is expected to play a crucial role in the company’s plan to increase production capacity. With the completion of the first production truck, Tesla can begin testing and refining the Cybertruck to ensure it meets the high standards expected by customers.

While the delay in production may have disappointed some eager Tesla customers, the completion of the first Cybertruck indicates that progress is being made. As Tesla continues to work towards ramping up production and meeting customer demand, the electric pickup market is set to be revolutionized by the unique design and capabilities of the Cybertruck.
