Tesla Cybertruck Production Delayed by Two Years: What it Means for the Electric Pickup Market

Mass production was delayed by two years

Tesla Corporation announced that it has assembled the first Cybertruck electric pickup truck at a plant in Austin, Texas. This came after two years of delays.

Tesla founder Elon Musk introduced the Cybertruck in 2019. However, mass production was delayed: Musk previously explained this by problems with the supply of necessary components. In May 2023, Musk promised the company’s shareholders that Tesla would be capable of producing 250,000 cybertrucks a year, depending on demand.

The start of Cybertruck production allows Tesla to enter one of the most profitable segments of the US automotive market: electric pickups are also produced, for example, by Ford Motor and Rivian Automotive, but their production volumes are still small.
