Tesla Cybertruck Production and Resale Restrictions

The Tesla Cybertruck electric pick-up was introduced already in November 2019, but the start of its production was not until this year. Probably at the end of November, the official start of deliveries of the pick-up to customers who have really waited a long time is expected. But the first customers may not only be people who ordered the car out of curiosity or for its quality.

Quite understandably, there are fears that among the first buyers of the Tesla Cybertruck there could also be resellers who will try to capitalize on the fact that the new electric pickup will be in short supply for a long time to come. However, the carmaker decided to actively defend itself against them.

As pointed out by the website InsideEV’sTesla has recently updated the terms and conditions for ordering motor vehicles in the US market on its website, which are to view online. At the same time, the paragraph dedicated only to the cybertruck is worth paying attention to.

In it, the automaker states that the new owner of the car agrees not to sell it during the first year of ownership. However, if there were any unforeseen reasons why the owner would like to part with the car, he must inform the car manufacturer, which claims the right of pre-emption. The purchase price should depend on the car’s run-in, its condition and the expected costs of offering the car to other customers in a condition that meets the car manufacturer’s parameters for used vehicles.

If the automaker is not interested in buying the car, the customer must ask Tesla for approval to sell the pickup to a third party. If the owner of the car were to violate this agreement, or the car company found out that he would try to do so, he claims the right to stop the business. In addition, the owner of the car faces a fine of up to 50,000 dollars, or a fine equal to the amount he received for the car. In addition, Tesla will be able to refuse to sell another car to the person in question.

This is a quite understandable step on the part of the car company, as production should gradually start until 2025, when production is expected to reach around 125,000 units per year. It would probably be possible to make a decent profit on the resale of the first pieces.

Other car companies have also decided to take a similar step in the past. For example, Ford watched the sale of the GT supercar, which was almost paid for by the wrestler and actor John Cena. However, the fate of cars from various limited editions is also monitored by the Porsche brand.
