Since the Tesla Cybertruck was launched, its endurance test has attracted much attention. The media have been the first to verify how far the Cybertruck can travel when fully charged, and how far it deviates from Tesla’s official estimate.
The Cybertruck had some less-than-ideal test situations. For example, the Cybertruck’s battery life under highway testing was lower than expected. This is affected by many external factors such as driving style and temperature, and tests in a single environment are not representative.
Recently, the American automotive media Edmunds conducted a relatively comprehensive Cybertruck endurance test. The test was mainly conducted under good weather conditions, and did not deliberately distinguish between high-speed or urban driving. It focused on simulating the comprehensive working conditions of daily driving, which is more in line with users’ actual car use. Scenario, cruising range data will be more representative.
It is worth mentioning that this test was a dual-motor all-wheel drive version of the Cybertruck. Tesla officials say the car has a driving range of 340 miles (approximately 547 kilometers) when equipped with all-season tires. However, because the test vehicle was not equipped with additional aerodynamic bell covers, the official estimated cruising range was reduced to 318 miles (approximately 512 kilometers).
After Edmunds testing, we learned that the actual cruising range of the test vehicle is 334 miles (approximately 537 kilometers), which is slightly higher than the 318 miles on the official website, which is in line with the calculated data.
Although the Cybertruck’s aerodynamic bell cover can reduce the drag coefficient and improve endurance performance. However, Tesla recently stopped delivering Cybertrucks with this bell cover due to the risk of damage to the tire sidewalls.
It should be noted that the official U.S. EPA cruising range data of Cybertruck has not yet been released. We can only know the official range introduction of the car when it was released in 2019. The dual-motor version has a range of more than 300 miles, while the three-motor version has a range of more than 500 miles.
In this comprehensive road condition test, the Cybertruck’s cruising range is better than Tesla’s official estimate, and there is still room for improvement through subsequent system improvements.
