A fire on a high-voltage power line has cut off the power supply to the Tesla factory near Berlin. A left-wing extremist group says it is behind the action. The factory is closed ‘until further notice’.
In Grünheide, about 30 kilometers east of Berlin, there had been protests against the expansion of a gigantic Tesla factory for some time. This morning there suddenly turned out to be no power due to a fire on an electricity pylon. The high-voltage line was so badly damaged that the power supply in the region failed. In addition to the Tesla branch, several households in the area are also without electricity.
After the power failure, the alarm was sounded at 5.15 am and the factory had to be evacuated. The staff was taken to the nearby station by shuttle bus. The extent of the damage is not clear, but Tesla has already announced that the factory is closed until further notice.
“Not green, not social”
Suspicions of foul play soon arose, and the ‘Vulkangruppe’ group has since claimed responsibility for the action. “We sabotaged Tesla today,” the statement said. Vulkangruppe was already suspected of arson in the power supply for the construction site of the Tesla factory in 2021. On left-wing radical websites, the group accused the American manufacturer of electric cars of not being green, not ecological and not social.
For example, there are concerns about water pollution, and the plan to clear a forest to expand the factory is encountering resistance. About eighty activists have built tree houses there and do not want to leave the forest. However, the group of climate activists distances itself from the sabotage.
Meanwhile, Tesla boss Elon Musk has also responded to the events in Grünheide: “These are either the dumbest eco-terrorists in the world, or they are puppets of those who have no ecological ambitions,” he wrote on cars would be extremely stupid.”
