Tesla Cars Banned from Norwegian Driving Schools Due to Turn Signal Confusion

Electric car manufacturer Tesla’s latest cars are gradually being banned from driving schools in Norway. The reason for this is somewhat amusing, but also sad at the same time – confusion is caused by how to display a turn signal in Tesla cars.

Automakers, including Tesla, have a bad tendency to try to change what has worked perfectly for many years. This is one of those cases. Usually the turn signal has its own lever on the steering wheel, but by pressing it down or up we can show the turn signal. The lever was always in the same place, did not move anywhere, everything was understandable and simple.

Tesla figured out that it doesn’t work at all, so in the latest cars, the display of turn signals has been transferred to the buttons found on the steering wheel. And who would have thought that – the steering wheel is turned, as well as the buttons, and then instead of turning right, you can suddenly turn left. Of course, this can also happen with the good old solution, but the chances of messing something up are smaller.

Tesla has chosen a minimalist design in its cars, transferring as many things as possible to the large touch screen in the center of the car. Some like it, some don’t, but you can live with it. One specific example where Norwegians have identified problems is driving at a roundabout. As it is accepted in our country, also in Norway, you must show a turn signal when leaving the circle. Driving school instructors have found that Tesla’s proposed solution is more cumbersome, distracting the driver from the road. Although they don’t call it a life-threatening situation, there is a greater risk of hitting another car or hitting a curb. Driving instructors in many Scandinavian countries have come to similar conclusions, so they decided to ban the use of Teslas for training, stating that it can cause additional difficulties for new drivers, which can result in accidents on the road.
