The local environment minister in Brandenburg has given Tesla a conditional approval for the start-up of the electric car factory in Gruenheide outside Berlin, writes Reuters. This is the final approval the factory needs, according to Bloomberg.

According to the plan, the factory will produce 500,000 electric cars a year. In addition, there will be a battery factory on site that will produce over 50 gigawatt hours a year.

According to the Ministry of the Environment in Brandenburg, Tesla plans to meet all the requirements that remain within the next two weeks.

– This is a new chapter in our industrial development. We need big projects like Tesla, Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke told reporters, according to Bloomberg.

The factory was actually supposed to be in operation earlier, but has been postponed repeatedly due to several problems and obstacles.

– Berlin is extremely important for Tesla’s expanded capacity plans for 2022 and beyond, said analyst and CEO of Wedbush Securities, Dan Ives to CNBC in December.
